On April 1, 2024, Currituck County Attorney Megan Morgan informed the Board of Commissioners that the county intends to appeal the recent decision made by the N.C. Court of Appeals. It’s important to note that filing an appeal does not guarantee that the case will be heard, as the N.C. Supreme Court first needs to accept it.
However, considering the potential ramifications, such as significant tax increases for mainland county residents to cover expenses incurred over a two-decade period as outlined by the court, pursuing the appeal could be worthwhile. Given the potential consequences, the effort, time, and expense involved in moving the appeal forward may be well justified.
Blackwater Reports is closely monitoring developments in this case.
