Credible sources speaking exclusively to BlackwaterReports tell us that Currituck County Manager Ike McRee has submitted his resignation and intends to retire on March 31, 2024. Last night, McRee emailed commissioners his intent to retire, and minutes later, he emailed the department head, notifying them.

A new county manager will inherit a job that has become fraught with controversy and likely future litigation, costing the taxpayers tens of thousands of dollars.

This is a developing story.
