The military is a cross-segment of society

In understanding Sailors who have had issues with the production of pornography as sex workers, we have to keep in mind that members of the Armed Forces are a cross-segment of society in America. In that sense, the military didn’t make or create anyone who produces pornography, the subject of this series. We will point out several instances where Officers and Sailors have had run-ins with legal issues to try and understand where the Navy draws the line. At this time, the line appears to be very blurry.

2017 was a bad year for the Military porn machine

Between 2017 and 2019, Former SEAL Petty Officer 1st Class Gregory Kyle Seerden, 33, pleaded guilty to seven felony counts of lewd acts on a child. The child was between 5 and 7 years of age. Seerden also faced federal charges stemming from raping a woman in Virginia Beach in 2018. Additionally, investigators found he had child pornography on his iPhone 7. Seerden was sentenced to 60 years in prison. Read more here.

According to CBS News, Capt. Jason Salata, a SEALs spokesman, said, “Very clear regulations govern outside employment and prohibitions on discrediting behavior to the service.”

In 2017 Navy started looking at Chief Special Warfare Officer Joseph Schmidt III, who was known as Jay Voom, in close to 30 pornographic videos with his wife, porn actress Jewels Jade. Schmidt’s wife alleged that everyone at her husband’s command was aware of his side gig in porn and that many watched their videos. Read more here.

Also, in 2017, news broke of a Marine group that was sharing nude photos of female Marines online. The War Horse, founded by Marine Thomas Brennan, broke this story, which brought Navy and Marine Corps leadership before the Senate Armed Services Committee. Read more here.

In 2008, Major Kelly L. McGovern, Judge Advocate, U.S. Army, authored a detailed analysis of this issue and the range of punishments available to commanders. McGovern noted that Article 15 under the UCMJ. “Non-judicial punishment provides commanders with an essential and prompt means of maintaining good order and discipline and promotes positive behavior changes in service members without the stigma of a court-martial conviction.

Can Good Order and Discipline coexist with Sex Workers?

I want to explore the issue of good order and discipline. In an age where everyone has a smartphone. We have to wonder about the effect on command climate and good order and discipline when Sailors are at work talking about and sharing the latest porn video produced by a fellow shipmate. The Sailor assigned to the USS GEORGE WASHINGTON aircraft carrier is a popular topic of discussion on porn message boards. Googling “callsignbootshine” will bring up several sites containing his adult content. Discussions online often include questions about how he gets away with being in porn on active duty. For his fans, there is no separation between his active duty status and his penchant for streaming homemade pornography.

Not Safe for Work

Care should be used in researching callsignbootshine. His nude photos are all over the internet, and several of his masturbation videos are available on free streaming sites. If you’re wondering why we haven’t identified this Sailor by his real name, you should stick with this series because we will get into that soon. In closing this post, we’ll leave you with a quote from one of callsignbootshine’s fans online.

“extremely distasteful to perform sex work while in uniform.”

We kind of think so, too.
